Last Weekend To Vote On NCSD Levy

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek

The North Clackamas School District has proposed a local option levy titled Measure 3-599. A local option levy is a request a school district makes for voters to pass funding for district operations including staff.

If passed, it will renew the levy passed in 2018 that has provided funding for 180 different teaching positions and class size averages will remain the same. It will also maintain the current tax rate of 1.63 dollars per 1,000 dollars of assessed property value for 5 years. The levy would generate 25 million over the next 5 years and all funds would be contributed towards the district.

If it is not passed the tax rate will be assessed, 180 teachers will not be funded, and class size averages will change.

When asked about this issue, Ethelyn Tumalad-Granados, Oregon’s Teacher of the Year for 2022 stated “It’s going to keep the teachers employed and class sizes down so I do support it.”
