Frequent school board meeting attendee Michael Corbus, a parent with a student who attends Rex Putnam,  continues to testify in front of the NCSD school board on a regular basis for the second year in a row. At the most recent meeting, Corbus requested a more thorough investigation regarding a reported situation that happened to his children last year. On October 1st of 2022, his son Levi Corbus posted a video on his Instagram account. The video consisted of Levi talking about the Bible and how God feels about members of the LGBTQ+ community,  stating that the actions are sinful. He ended up receiving lots of backlash from students in his comments and Instagram messages.

One message contained offensive and ableist language directed towards his sister Kylie, who is disabled. In Michael Corbus’ first speech about this incident, he singled out members of the LGBTQ+ community which isn’t permitted according to NCSD’s guidelines. In this board meeting, he stated that his son Levi has “taken a lot of hate this year in particular from LGBTQ+ kids for simply being a Christian who does not believe the way they want him to believe”. He had no proof that the harassment was specifically from the LGBTQ+ community, and continued to try and claim this was the case.

Though he claims that he is unbiased toward this community, his online presence says otherwise. Recently he posted a fight video between two children, and captioned it as, “The ‘marginalized’ bullies are vicious!” He was referring to one of the children in the video who is transgender, and continues to say, “This boy who says he’s a girl gets to beat the sh-t out of an actual girl and he is the victim? Local news probably won’t cover it because they are afraid of the alphabet mafia!” Referring to the LGBTQ+ community as the “alphabet mafia” has become a new homophobic term used to refer to the LGBTQ+ community. Corbus has also made statements that a teacher at Sabin-Schellenberg was the campaign manager for certain candidates in the 2023 school board election. Melissa Fireside ran the campaigns for the re-election of several board members.

There have been multiple times where he has been cut off while speaking because of his accusations, and targeting certain groups of people. Corbus says he will continue to attend the school board meetings.   School Board meetings can be seen online at the NCSD School Board page on YouTube.
