RPHS students take part in the School Safety March.

On March 14th, 2018 at 10:00 am Rex Putnam High School students participated in the National Walkout. Grace Hancock, a senior at Rex Putnam organized the walkout, and word quickly spread throughout students via social media.

Before the walkout Grace had written a letter to the Congress demanding a change in our gun laws, the letter stating “How many more Parklands and Sandy Hooks will there be before we can see real change.” During the walkout the letter was passed around and got nearly a hundred signatures demanding a change.

During the walkout many students held signs that they had made after school or at home, as a way to share their voice and be heard. Grace also made some signs to hand out to people. Though many students decided not hold a sign a message was still sent.

The day after the walkout, March 15th 2018 Grace on her instagram “I am so incredibly humbled to have been a part of this movement”. Grace had decided to plan this walkout on Sunday, March 11th, she also says “I had no idea that it would turn out as well as it did”. Many students at Rex Putnam are thankful that they were able to participate in this event.
