Producers review footage shot for their senior seminar project.

Students in the Broadcasting and Social Media program are examining the impact of school violence as part of their senior seminar experience.  The upper-level students chose to produce a screenplay from the novel, “This Is Where It Ends” as part of their film project.  The producers, CHS Seniors Alexandria Acevedo and Emily Lucente, are joined by Mauricio Del Castillio and Kaden Brookhouse who work as the chief camera operator and editor, have been filming over the past two months.  Students in the levels 1 and 2 are working as cast and crew members. Students from the SSC Law Enforcement program, and their instructor, are also adding to the realism of the production.

The teens wanted to examine an issue that has been a part of their entire school careers with a sense that school shootings have an impact not only on those who die but those that are witness to the carnage of the episodes.  The students have been shooting the scenes during their regular class time as well as on the weekends to make sure the production is completed in time to present to the Broadcasting Advisors who will be meeting with them at the end of January to assess the film and their work.

The film is expected to be shown in a public setting in February.   This is the second movie filmed by students as part of their senior project while in the Broadcasting program.  Three years ago, a group of students produced “The Breakfast Club”.  Many of those students are now in college working on their degrees in film.
