President Donald Trump has had quite a bit of attention drawn to him during his term in office, especially these past few months. If you read or watch any news you have probably heard many Democratic opinions on Trump, but what about the thoughts of Republicans? Senators like John Cornyn from Texas have spoken out about their dissatisfaction with some of the actions of President Trump. John Cornyn said, “I don’t think you are going to change somebody at this point in his life but hopefully he will, like all of us when we make a mistake, he’ll learn from it.” according to CNN in an article about GOP lawmakers.

Politicians are not the only ones with an opinion on President Trump. When some Republican Americans were asked about their opinion on how Trump has made America a better country, many of them had similar answers. Ben Wood, a Sophomore from Milwaukie High School said, “I like his economic policies with tax cuts, and I like that he brought unemployment to a 49-year low.” Ella Fedosov, a Sophomore from Clackamas Middle College said, “The economy is doing better (a growth that hit 4.2 percent last quarter + new unemployment hit a 49-year low.)” Allan Ramsay, from Atlanta, Georgia said, “Lowest unemployment rate in 50 years. He has been influential in bringing jobs back to the US from overseas.”

Another thing that everyone agreed Donald Trump has done to help America is what he’s done relating to immigration. Some of the answers were,  “He is concerned about the illegal immigration problem that this country has had for last 30+ years.” and, “I like his toughness on illegal immigration.”

When asked about the Ukraine scandal, some of the answers still had a running theme. “I don’t think presidents should talk about internal elections with foreign leaders, but there is a video of Joe Biden clearly doing what he is accusing Trump of.” and, “There should be an investigation going into a case involving Biden’s corruption.” were two of the opinions shared on whether or not Trump should be impeached. Another opinion on the impeachment was, “If his position was used for personal gain then there should be a trial. We are innocent until proven guilty.” There wasn’t always a clear answer to the question, and sometimes, you will be redirected to a completely different topic.

Although their answers varied, the majority of the people interviewed all felt that some of Donald Trump’s actions have not always been the most appropriate. They do all believe that he has made a positive difference in America and he was the right candidate for the job.
